דבשת

Hebrew

Etymology

Of uncertain etymology.

  • According to Klein, possibly related to Arabic دَبَش (dabaš, trinkets, furnishings, luggage?) though the final ش (š) casts doubt.
  • According to Strong, from the root ד־ב־שׁ (d-b-š) forming words relating to honey, thus (originally?) meaning beehive yet later coming to mean a hump due to visual similarities.
