тенис на маса
Bulgarian
Etymology
From те́нис (ténis, “tennis”) + на (na, “on”) + ма́са (mása, “table”), literally “tennis on a table”. Ultimately, derived from English table tennis, as the sport was invented in Britain. Possibly a calque of the English. (Can this(+) etymology be sourced?)
Compare also Portuguese tênis de mesa, Catalan tennis de taula, where the translations use words meaning “of”, rather than “on”—as in Bulgarian.
