изуст

Bulgarian

Etymology

Inherited from Old Church Slavonic изъоусть (izŭustĭ), said to be from изъ (izŭ, out of) +‎ оусть (ustĭ, mouth, genitive plural of оуста (usta)) by BER. (Can this(+) etymology be sourced? Particularly: “оусть appears to be the nominative, not the genitive plural; оуста is plural-only but not given any declension info at the time of editing (15 Sep 2025)”)

By surface analysis, из (iz) +‎ уста́ (ustá), literally out of mouth.
