Literally, “[may] the earth [be] like glass wool”, i.e. painful to rest in. Derogatory alteration of земля́ пу́хом (zemljá púxom, literally “[may] the earth [be] like feather down”).

Cognate with Russian земля́ стеклова́той (zemljá steklovátoj).
